Mombasa Beach is increasingly affected by plastic waste, discarded fishing gear, food packaging, and other litter that threatens marine ecosystems, tourism, and community health. Sana Mare Environmental CBO will organize a large-scale beach cleanup involving local volunteers, youth groups, and community members. Over a one-day cleanup campaign, we will collect and properly sort at least 500kg of waste from the beach and surrounding shoreline areas. The project will use gloves, litter pickers, sacks, wheelbarrows, safety equipment, and waste transportation services. Recyclable materials will be separated and delivered to recycling partners, while non-recyclable waste will be disposed of responsibly. In addition to the cleanup, we will educate community members and beach users on proper waste management and the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems. The action is expected to take one week of preparation and one full cleanup day. As a result, the beach will be cleaner and safer for residents, tourists, and marine wildlife. The project will help reduce pollution entering the Indian Ocean, improve environmental awareness, and encourage long-term community stewardship of Mombasa's coastline.
